Football widow

It's that time of year again.  The leaves begin to change, the air just a little cooler. . . and I become a football widow.

In years past, I was all about football season.  Sure, it wasn't my favorite thing to watch my husband swing his shirt around his head and worry our neighbors we have domestic issues from all the yelling at the TV, but all in all, I loved the competition, passion, and spending time relaxing together on the couch.

Fast forward 3.5 years.  Saturdays are not luxury days for me.  Saturdays are to-do lists because during the week I give all I have just to get up and go to work, make dinner, and fulfill other minor weekday obligations.  I still love football, but have a hard time dedicating 3 hours of sitting when I know I should be getting other stuff done that I didn't do during the week.

So this year, I'll say a prayer every morning that the Texas Longhorns win, and kiss my husband goodbye for the next few months, wishing his football season well as I pop in for the first and fourth quarters...just for conversational purposes and to gauge whether or not he needs some 'alone time' after a tough loss.

I've got a baby on the way.  Single digit weeks now, and Saturdays simply cannot be spent on the couch.  9 months ago, I thought I had all the time in the world to get ready for this little surprise.  Now I only have 9 weeks left, and I haven't done a thing to prepare.  Minor panic is setting in, and there is a lot I want to accomplish before baby girl arrives.

I'm off to make a quick score check of the BYU game and head out to do some errands.

But let it be known, I find my husband's minor addiction to college football endearing--doing what he loves to do--watching one game on the TV while listening to another, while checking the Internet for other game scores.  Because let's face it, when The Bachelor returns on Mondays, I want no interruptions.  ; )

  1. Did you read my mind on this post? When I say we have been watching football all day, that is not an exaggeration. Started at 10 am and it's still going. No joke.

And don't stress about baby stuff. We didn't buy most of our stuff until about 2 weeks before O was born. We bought a lot even after. So exciting that you are almost there!
